IPL 2021 Auction to take place on 18 February in Chennai

The wait is finally over. The much awaited IPL 2021 Auction will take place on February 18th at Chennai. The decision was finalized by the IPL governing council and the BCCI on Wednesday. All the eight franchises have already announced the list of their retained players and this mini auction provides them a perfect opportunity to plug in the remaining gaps. The IPL auction 2021 will be a full day long event and is scheduled on the immediate next day after the end of the 2nd Test between India and England happening on the same location.
IPL 2021 Auction to be held on February 18th
Over the past few days there were constant reports of IPL 2021 Auctions being scheduled on the second week of February. Justifying all those claims, the BCCI and the IPL governing council have now made an official statement regarding the same.

They have announced that the event will happen on February 18th, one day immediately after the end of India’s second Test against England. It is also decided that the venue for the same will be same as that of the second Test- Chennai.

KXIP, RR and RCB eye big purchases
As a preparation for the mini-auction, the teams had already announced their list of retained players. Some teams like KXIP, RR and RCB have released a lot of players including prominent overseas stars. And hence this mini-auction would be the perfect opportunity for them to grab some notable names from the auction pool and strengthen their squads ahead of IPL 2021. The rest of the teams have very few spots to fill and are not expected to go for big money purchases.

More than anything else, the fact that the venue of this year’s IPL hasn’t been finalized yet calls for tough selection choices for the teams heading into the auction. Mitchell Starc, Shakib Al Hasan, Kyle Jamieson, Glenn Maxwell, Aaron Finch and Steve Smith are some of the prominent names that will be up for grabs on February 18th.
