IPL 2021 Auction likely to be held on 18 February: Report

The BCCI will conduct the IPL auction on 18th February according to a report published by an English daily. As per the report, a BCCI official said PTI that IPL will auction will be held on 18 February and the venue for the same is not finalized yet.

Ahead of the 2021 season of IPL, the BCCI had given all franchises a time-frame to release players they don’t want to continue with. Franchises were also allowed to trade players. 20 January was the last date for such trading and for releasing players. Few franchises didn’t make major changes while a few others have released key players from the team.
After franchises declared their respective list of released players, the fans now are waiting eagerly for the next auction. According to an English daily, a BCCI officer told PTI that BCCI is keen on organizing the next edition of IPL in India. However, there are no official announcements about it yet.
The official also told that BCCI will conduct the auction on 18 February where the players released from the franchises will go under the hammer. He made it clear that although the date is fixed, the venue is not decided yet.

Plenty of Australian players will go under the hammer on 18th February. Rajasthan released Steve Smith and has named Sanju Samson as their next captain.

Glenn Maxwell, who failed to make an impact is released as well. Alex Carey, the wicket-keeper batsman and pace bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile are released by Delhi and Mumbai respectively. RCB has released opening batsman Aaron Finch. All these players are specialists in T20 cricket and hence could attract big money.
Similarly, Indian players such as Harbhajan Singh and Kedar Jadhav will feature in the auction along with Windies players F Allen and S Cottrell. Nepal’s leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichanne could attract a big price as well.
