The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has halved the prize money for IPL 2020. The champions and the runners-up this season will get half of what that was paid-out last season. It is understood that the announcement has come as cost-cutting measures.
IPL 2020 Prize Money
BCCI has sent a circular to all franchises to notify that the IPL 2020 champion team will now receive Rs 10 crore instead of Rs 20 Crore, while the runner-up will get Rs 6.25 crore instead of earlier Rs 12.5 crore.
“The franchises are all in good health. They also have multiple ways like sponsorships to bolster their income. Hence the decision on prize money taken,” said senior BCCI source.
Payout for state associations
The state associations hosting IPL 2020 games will get Rs 1 crore with franchises. Moreover, BCCI will contribute Rs 50 lakh each.
Apart from that, it is said that mid-level BCCI employees won’t be allowed to avail business class flights like earlier for flying to Asian countries (Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, UAE) where the fight time is less than eight hours.
