The recently concluded eleventh edition of the IPL crowned CSK as the champions.
We witnessed a twisted tale of hard work and hard luck this season, where many players failed while many others stole the show. The foundation brick of the cricket extravaganza was laid in the auctions, which is one of the events that dominate the cash-rich league.
So let’s summon the days of vendue once again and have a glance at the players who couldn’t justify their price tags with their performance.
Ben Stokes: 12.5 crores
Rajasthan Royals became the team who bid for the costliest buy of this season in the name of Ben Stokes. Stokes was also the most expensive player of the previous season, but this year things didn’t go well for English cricketer. He could only manage to score 148 runs at an average of 18.5 in 8 matches in comparison to his previous blast of brilliance where he scored 316 runs and took 12 wickets at an economy rate of 7.18.
Jaydev Unadkat: 11.5 crores
Rajasthan Royals also splurged huge amount on Jaydev Unadkat and bought him for 11 crores. However, the left-arm pacer couldn’t live up to the expectations of his franchise and was able to pick only 12 wickets during the tournament.
Manish Pandey: 11 crores
The Deccan team, Sunrises Hyderabad had shown a great confidence on Manish Pandey but he was unable to perform this season. At the auction day, Manish was bought for 11 crores in the hope of chasing scores or making big totals but, unfortunately it didn’t happen. Manish was included in the playing XI in eight matches where he only scored 158 runs at an average of 158.33.
Glenn Maxwell: 9 crores
Once a million dollar baby, Glenn Maxwell was supposed to make Delhi proud by his joining, but the massive amount of 9 crores looks a total waste for the side. The big-hitting Australian scored 131 runs at a strike rate of 155.95 and picked five wickets at an average of 17.20.
Aaron Finch: 6.20 crores
It turned out to be a torrid IPL season for 31-year old Aaron Finch as he scored only 134 runs in ten appearances. It seems like Finchy is not in the zone when it comes to cricket. At the very beginning of the season he had taken some time to join the team because of his marriage date, but later he was seen not in touch to play cricket. The terrorize batter was looking terrible at the field of action.
