SLW vs INDW: First ODI
Indian Women’s team are on their way to crush the Sri-Lankan squad on their home soil, and it is initiated by the exceptional Indian talent Smriti Mandhana. The Indian batter showed stellar performance at Galle International Stadium, Galle against Sri-Lanka in a low scoring match which leads India to win the first match of the three-ODI series against the hosts.
How was the Sri-Lankan debacle planned?
The hosts, Sri-Lankan Women’s team won the toss and chose to bat first. Sri-Lankan batting line up wasn’t able to back their decision of batting first on the field. Only the most experienced player, Chamari Athapaththu scored 30+ runs, and the whole team fell like the house of cards. They put up a score of 98 runs in 35 overs in which Mansi Joshi, Poonam Yadav and Jhulan Goswami impressed with the ball.
How Indian team built up the chase?
Indian team steps out to chase a low score where Punam Raut contributed 24 runs. Her wicket was scalped by Ranaweera (The only wicket-taker from the Sri-Lankan side in the first ODI). Then came Mithali Raj, she helped Mandhana from the other end, and Smriti smashed 73 runs in just 76 balls.
Making of Smriti Mandhana’s Innings!
Indian Women batter Smriti scored 73 runs in 76 balls. She outclassed the Sri-Lankan bowling line-up and smashed eleven 4s and two 6s in her innings. Mithali came to support her from the non-striking end, and she didn’t need to put her efforts to chase down the score. It is good news for the Indian side before the ICC Women’s World Cup that out star Smriti is in touch, and she is looking quite comfortable on the field.
The next fixture of the tour will be played on Galle International Stadium, Galle on 13th September 2018. It will be a second challenge for the Indian Women’s team which will be a cracker of a match.
