The last time the T20 World Cup was hosted by West Indies was in 2010. India managed to win only 2 matches out of 6 group matches under MS Dhoni’s Captaincy. Then India toured to the USA in 2016 and played a two-match T20I series against the West Indies with a 1-0 series win under the same captain.
After that, under Virat Kohli’s leadership, India travelled to the West Indies & USA in 2019. India won that series by 3-0.
India has played 2 T20I series in the West Indies & USA in 2022 and 2023 respectively. In 2022, Rohit Sharma was the captain who beat West Indies by 4-1. But in 2023, India under Hardik Pandya faced a defeat of 3-2 result.
So, considering the upcoming T20 World Cup, India needs to find a better captain if Rohit Sharma is unavailable.
Who is India’s most successful T20 Captain?
To answer this question, MS Dhoni comes first in people’s minds for the trophy-winning inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup 2007. Not only that, but he is the only one under whom India played two T20 World Cup Finals in 2007 and 2014. His last T20 World Cup as a captain was in 2016 when India lost against the West Indies in the Semi-Finals.
After Dhoni, India reached the 2022 T20 World Cup Semi-Final under Rohit Sharma and lost to England by 10 wickets.

Win% | Captain | Span | Matches | Won | Lost | Tie | NR |
77.50 | Rohit Sharma | 2017 to present | 40 | 31 | 9 | 0 | 0 |
64.58 | Virat Kohli | 2017-2021 | 50 | 30 | 16 | 2 | 2 |

As per winning Percentage, Rohit Sharma is the best captain. He is 36 now. And Indian fans are hopeful to see him as a captain in this T20 World Cup. Hardik Pandya is not a bad option though. But, he is an injury-prone cricketer with a bigger workload. So, Rohit Sharma is the best option this time.
