Bumrah out of contention for the Lord’s Test

Jasprit Bumrah was named in the squad for first three Test matches, but Indian team management are still not certain about the fitness of Indian fast bowler.

Bumrah is recovering from a thumb injury and Indian bowling coach, Bharat Arun has confirmed that he has been ruled out of the second Test at Lord’s scheduled to start from Thursday.

“Jasprit Bumrah is bowling fit but he is not match fit right now. I think it will be too early to put him into a game-like situation because, I think, he needs to come out of the band-aid on his hand. So, for the second Test match at Lord’s, Bumrah is out of contention,” Bharat Arun, Indian bowling coach said.

The pacer had suffered an injury in his non-bowling thumb during the first T20I against Ireland. He suffered an injury in Malahide while he was trying to stop a ball on his run-up.

Subsequently, he was ruled out of the T20I and ODI series against England but he was available for first three Test matches against England as BCCI had named him in the squad after being assured of his fitness.

While talking about the preparations for India’s next game at Lord’s, Bharat Arun said, “Playing an extra batsman at Lord’s would be a conservative move. I think everything will depend on the conditions and I believe it would make more sense to play five bowlers in the match.”

Satisfied with India’s bowling performance

He also expressed his satisfaction over the clinical bowling performance by the Indians where they picked 20 wickets in a Test match outside the sub-continent.

When asked about Kuldeep’s or Jadeja’s inclusion in the playing 11, Bharat Arun chose to remain silent.

“It is a happy dilemma to pick one between Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav. We take a call on that after analysing the conditions of the pitch,” he said.
