KERALA WITNESSES MASSIVE FLOODS
Kerala is witnessing its worst natural calamity in history. Massive floods have hit the state. As a result of this, the state is looking for funds and help in any other form for the flood victims. The entire state is on red alert. More rains are expected to hit the state till Saturday.
The number of people who has died has reached to 164 and almost two lakh people are staying in relief camps across the state.
CENTRAL GOVERNMENT COMES TO HELP IN RESCUE OPERATIONS
The Central Government on Thursday, asked help from all three wings of the armed forces in the enormous rescue operation. Helicopters airlifted displaced families from various rooftops and dam gates were opened as endless violent rain brought too much damage and destruction.
A total number of 52 teams of the army, air force, navy, Coast Guard and NDRF are already doing their part in the rescue and relief operations.2,182 people have been rescued for now and 968 have been shifted to a safe location by NDRF, army and navy teams.
After conducting a meeting with National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) on Thursday, the central government agreed to increase the rescue operations. It has agreed to send 35 more NDRF teams comprising nearly 1,000 personnel.
Even the Indian cricket fraternity contributed their part in the funds for the relief camps and took to Twitter to urge their fans and supporters to donate to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund.
