The #4 conundrum for India in the 50 over cricket has been put to rest by the Mumbai lad Shreyas Iyer who looks all but settled to service India for long.
India have struggled to find a proper #4 since the world cup hero Yuvraj Singh. India historically had some greats like Mohammad Azharuddin, Rahul Dravid manning the #4 spot for a long period of time in ODIs during their playing days.
Mohammad Kaif admits that he is a fan of Shreyas Iyer
The former Indian batsman Mohammad Kaif in his latest chat session with Aakash Chopra said that he is a huge fan of the Delhi capitals skipper Shreyas Iyer. Mohammad Kaif has seen Shreyas Iyer up close as he is associated with the Delhi capitals as the assistant coach. Here’s what Kaif had to say about Shreyas Iyer
I am a huge fan of Shreyas Iyer. Firstly, he has come out of domestic cricket, having played many years there. He has not got an opportunity too quickly for India. He has played IPL for a number of years, scored many runs, then only his name came. His name has come at the right time because he is hungry. He is bored of playing domestic cricket and wants to play for India
Captaincy helped Iyer- Mohammad Kaif
Shreyas Iyer is just 25 years old but has already showed immense maturity and calm head. He showcased his captaincy skills as well in the 2019 IPL where he steered his team up until qualifier 2.
“He is mentally very sorted, has a great understanding of his game and his role. He doesn’t get angry easily and thinks a lot before speaking. He has gained a lot from captaining in the IPL because you learn to take responsibility. Since he has become captain, he has become a better player. India will not get a better player than Shreyas Iyer at No.4,” Mohammad Kaif concluded
