South African skipper Temba Bavuma has not been announced in the Proteas lineup for the second One Day International (ODI) against India. Keshav Maharaj is captaining the side in Ranchi.
It is South Africa’s second tour of India within the last six months and the Proteas men already lost the T20 International series against the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team earlier. However, South Africa won the first ODI of the three-match series on Thursday (October 6). With the help of David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen’s unbeaten partnership of 139 runs, South Africa put on a respectable total of 249 for four.
In reply, India’s Shreyas Iyer scored a fifty, while Sanju Samson scored 86 runs not out. Although, Samson, being on the crease didn’t help India as the side lost the game by a narrow margin of nine runs. South Africa’s Lungi Ngidi picked up three wickets while Shardul Thakur had picked two previously.
India vs South Africa 2nd ODI: Keshav Maharaj wins the toss for South Africa; opts to bat first
Besides, winning the toss, Proteas skipper Maharaj opted to bat first. He said, “We are gonna have a bat. Looks like a good wicket. Hopefully, we can try and utilize the conditions, assess it upfront, and play it from there.”
However, Indian skipper Shikhar Dhawan was thinking the opposite. He told Star Sports, during the toss, that he wanted to bowl first, aiming to restrict the visitors to a comfortable total. “We would have bowled first actually. There is going to be dew in the second innings and we are gonna take advantage of that,” added Dhawan.
