After a defeat in Lucknow, the Shikhar Dhawan-led Indian men are set to face South Africa in the second One Day International (ODI) in Ranchi. The game will be played at the JSCA International Stadium Complex at 1:30 PM.
South Africa are leading the three-match series 1-0. The visitors did exceptionally well in the first ODI, after losing the T20 International series by 1-2.
The Lucknow game was interrupted by rain and was reduced to 40 overs for each. India won the toss and asked the Proteas men to bat first. South Africa however, executed a team effort. Quinton de Kock hit 48 runs in 54 deliveries, with five boundaries, while opening the innings for his side. Although, Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller, in the end, finished things well for their team. Klaasen scored 74 runs in 65 deliveries, hitting six fours and a couple of sixes over the rope. Meanwhile, Miller too carried on and smashed 75 runs in 63 deliveries, with five fours and three sixes. Both the batters remained not out.
In reply, India’s Shreyas Iyer scored a 37-ball fifty, with eight fours. However, it was Sanju Samson, who lighted hopes in the Indian mids. He scored an unbeaten knock of 86 runs in 63 deliveries, with nine boundaries and three sixes in his account. Finally, Shardul Thakur, the Indian pacer, tried to sort it out for his side, but botched. His 33-run cameo couldn’t save India as the side lost the game by merely nine runs. Thakur had also picked a couple of wickets earlier. While, for South Africa, Lungi Ngidi finished as the highest wicket-taker of the game.

India vs South Africa 2nd ODI: Ranchi Pitch Report, Team India’s Record at the Venue
It was March 2019 when the JSCA Stadium last hosted an ODI. Australia then, defeated India by 32 runs despite a classic Virat Kohli ton.
The Ranchi pitch is more suitable for the batters, with the average first innings score being 253.5 runs. The data is based on the four ODIs played at the venue.
Moreover, spinners are prone to rule the game in the middle overs, when the ball is not-so-new and not-so-old. The pitch is likely to grip and turn for them.
Pacers, however, are unlikely to get more help, as the pitch offers little or no movement to the ball.
Overall, it is a batting pitch and both sides can expect 300+ cores on the board.

Ranchi hosted its first international match back in 2013. Only five men’s ODI matches have been played at the venue and India have won two of them and have lost a couple, with one being no result.
India have not won any ODI at Ranchi in the last eight years; it’s time for them to bounce back and level the series.
Besides, the Indian team will fly to Delhi for the third and final game of the series, which will be played on October 11 (Tuesday).
