India vs New Zealand 1st T20 Match Report
Brief Scorecard:
NZ: 164/6 in 20 overs (Martin Guptill 70, Mark Chapman 63; Ravichandran Ashwin 2/23, Bhuvneshwar Kumar 2/24)
IND: 166/5 in 19.4 overs (Suryakumar Yadav 62, Rohit Sharma 48; Trent Boult 2/31)
The Rahul-Rohit era started with a victory in the first game at Jaipur, but it was far from a cakewalk. India were cruising in the chase but the Kiwis pulled things back and pushed the game into the last over. The lethal swing bowling of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and the uninhibited strokeplay of Suryakumar Yadav were the highlights for Team India.

Put in to bat first, New Zealand lost the wicket of Dary Mitchell early, who was knocked out by a brilliant inswinger from Kumar. Martin Guptill scored briskly and was ably supported by Mark Chapman. The duo scored half-centuries and at the end of 13 overs, the Black Caps were 106/1. Ravi Ashwin triggered a mini-collapse and the Kiwis lost wickets in a hurry. The failure of the middle order ensured the target was no more than 165.
India lost Rahul early but Rohit Sharma and Surykumar Yadav combined to give the hosts a rampant start. Yadav has more or less cemented his spot with his unbridled attacking approach. He was awarded the Player of the Match for his innings. What seemed like an easy chase got nail-biting in the end as Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant failed to find the boundaries. Pant hit the winning runs but his performances of late in the T20Is will come under scrutiny with Ishan Kishan waiting in the wings.
