Rishabh Pant Covid-19 Infection source: Team India suffered a massive blow ahead of the England Test series as wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has tested positive for COVID-19. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that assistant training coach Dayanand Garani has also contracted the deadly virus on 14 July and his deemed close contacts, bowling coach Bharat Arun, Wriddhiman Saha and Abhimanyu Easwaran will serve a 10-day isolation period.

It has been reported that Rishabh Pant actually tested positive for Covid-19 nearly 7-8 days back and he is currently quarantining at his acquaintance’s house in UK. However, according to the recent TOI report, the India wicket-keeper had gone to visit a dentist on 5 and 6 July, which could be the source from where he picked the virus. Pant took the second dose of the Covid vaccine on 7 July.

“Pant had gone to a dentist on July 5 and 6 and could have picked the virus from the clinic. On July 7, he had been vaccinated,” a source was quoted as saying to The Times of India (TOI).
The Indian cricketer was also seen in the jam-packed Wembley Stadium with his friends while enjoying the EURO 2020 knock-out match between England and Germany.
“Pant, who had not stayed in the team hotel during the break period, tested positive on July 8. He is asymptomatic and currently undergoing self-isolation at the place where he reported positive. He is being closely monitored by the BCCI medical team and is on his way to recovery. He will be able to join the squad in Durham after returning two negative RT-PCR tests,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said.

“We have seen Euro Championship and Wimbledon in England. Rules have changed (with the crowd being allowed inside venues). They were on leave and it’s physically impossible to wear masks all the time,” said Sourav Ganguly.
