In an important news development, Australia are not playing wicket-keeper batsman Jos Inglis in the playing 11 for the second ODI encounter against India being played at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. After having suffered a disappointing 1-2 Test series defeat in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023, the visiting Australian team also ended up losing the first ODI game at the hands of India by a 5-wicket margin. Australia will be hoping to make a strong comeback in order to level the series.

During the toss, Australian skipper Steve Smith mentioned that their premier wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey is completely fit and back into the side for this 2nd ODI match against India. This also means that Jos Inglis will have to warm the bench. Carey was down with fever in the first ODI encounter in Mumbai where Inglis managed to score 26 runs off 27 balls that included 1 six and 1 four before getting clean bowled by Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami as Australia were bowled out for 188 runs in 35.4 overs. However, Australia will be hoping that Carey contributes well both with the gloves and as a batsman having scored more than 1600 runs from 63 ODI matches at an average of over 35 that comprises of 7 fifties and 1 hundred.
“We will have a bowl. Different surface, been under covers for a while, might do something. Just a partnership through the middle would have helped us. It’s a good learning for us playing on these surfaces. Ellis comes in for Maxwell who has pulled up a bit sore and Carey is back for Inglis,” said Australia captain Steve Smith during the toss.
