Boland, a 35-year-old pacer with 35 wickets from 10 Tests, has a history of strong performances in high-stakes matches. He played two Tests against India, notably excelling in the 2023 WTC Final at The Oval, where he claimed five wickets across both innings. Despite some speculation, Marnus Labuschagne and Mitchell Marsh retained their spots in the XI, with Marsh recovering from fitness issues.

Australia, trailing 0-1 in the five-match series, aims to rebound from their 295-run defeat in Perth. They hope to replicate their dominance from the 2021 pink-ball Test at the Adelaide Oval, where India was bowled out for just 36 runs in the second innings.
