India’s star batsman Rohit Sharma will miss the India A’s first unofficial Test against New Zealand. The Indian batsman has been rested by the team management to manage his workload.

Sharma advised rest

The decision to rest the opening batsman was declared by the BCCI through a press release. It said that Rohit Sharma has been advised rest by the BCCI Medical Team in consultation with the team management and the All-India Senior Selection Committee. The decision was taken keeping in mind his recent workload.

The right-hand batsman was part of India’s T20I team that played three T20Is against Windies. Sharma also featured in the five ODIs against Windies and was the captain of India’s team that won the Asia Cup.

Thus Rohit has been in action for sometime in the past and he is also part of India’s Test squad for the series against Australia. Hence, the team management may have decided to give the batsman some rest before he gears up for the Tests.
