The Indian team’s next overseas tour will be to England in the month of June where they will play the World Test Championship Final against New Zealand. The Indian players are vaccinating themselves prior to leaving for England. They will also play the test series against England in July. But, in between the WTC Final and England test series, the different groups of players will play 3 ODI and 3 T20I matches against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

Aakash Chopra picks India squad for Sri Lanka

The cricketer turned commentator has been proactive in giving his suggestions and predicting the winner of various series and tournaments. This time he has picked a 17 man squad for the Indian team which will play the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka in July. He chose Shikhar Dhawan as the leader of the team in the absence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and has confidence in Prithvi Shaw to maintain his terrific form.

“Shikhar Dhawan the captain because we have seen in the last two years that he is upgrading his software and batting with great responsibility. Along with him, I am picking Prithvi Shaw. The form we have seen from him, I feel he should be the front-runner in this race. Chopra said on his Youtube Channel.

He picked Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan as a potential replacement for Shreyas Iyer who will miss the series due to a shoulder injury.

“Hardik Pandya will be my vice-captain. And then Krunal Pandya. He played the last ODI series against England and performed well also. After that Yuzi Chahal. Deepak Chahar whose performances have been outstanding with the white-ball. Aakash added.

“Sanju Samson and Deepak Hooda, I will keep both these players. Sanju Samson has been playing good cricket, scored a century this year as well. Deepak Hooda has shown that he can be an explosive batsman at No.6 or No.7 and he can bowl a bit of off-spin,” Chopra concluded.

In the spin department, he has picked two extra spinners Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakravarthy who have been fine performers in the IPL.

The matches will start from 1:30 PM IST and Colombo have been chosen as the venue for hosting all the matches. The Indian players will arrive in Sri Lanka on July 5 and undergo hard quarantine for three days and then can take part in training from the next day.
