In a massive breaking news development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have announced the official India squad for the upcoming 19th edition of the Asian Games 2023 scheduled to be held in Hangzhou. The Men’s cricket matches in the Asian Games 2023 will be played from 28 September, 2023 to 8 October, 2023 in a T20 format. It is also to be noted that none of the players who are in consideration for the ODI World Cup 2023 in India, have been included in this T20 squad for the Asian Games.

26-year-old Ruturaj Gaikwad will be captaining the Indian team in the upcoming 19th Asian Games 2023 with a rather inexperienced set of players. The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, Rahul Tripathi, Shivam Dube and Tilak Varma are the main batsmen in the line-up with Jitesh Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh as the two wicket-keeper batters. The Ajit Agarkar-led national selection committee have picked as many as three spinners, Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed and Ravi Bishnoi while the pace bowling attack includes Mukesh Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Shivam Mavi and Avesh Khan.

The BCCI have named a 15-member India T20 squad alongwith 5 standby players which include the likes of Yash Thakur, Sai Kishore, Venkatesh Iyer, Deepak Hooda and Sai Sudharsan. This also means that the experienced players who are not in consideration for the 2023 ODI World Cup like Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar or Ravichandran Ashwin have been ignored and the BCCI wants the youngsters to showcase their talent in the Asian Games 2023.
