The selection, led by Ajit Agarkar, largely follows expected lines, with no major surprises, though the inclusion of left-arm seamer Yash Dayal has caught the eye.
The 17-member squad will be captained by Rohit Sharma, and one of the biggest highlights is the much-anticipated return of wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant. Pant, who has been out of international action for over a year following a serious car accident, is set to make his comeback to the Test format. His return brings much-needed experience and flair to the middle order, and he is expected to play a pivotal role behind the stumps.
Dayal, the 26-year-old pacer from Uttar Pradesh, has earned his maiden international call-up after an impressive domestic and IPL season. Since making his first-class debut in 2018, Dayal has been consistent, claiming 76 wickets in 44 innings at an average of 28.89. His performances in the IPL for the Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru over the past two seasons have further cemented his reputation as a promising talent.
The first Test will be played in Chennai, while the second is scheduled to commence on September 27 in Kanpur. With Pant’s return and Dayal’s debut, fans will be eager to see how India performs against Bangladesh in this two-match Test series.
