India’s tour of South Africa 2023-24 commenced on December 10 with the T20I series, followed by three ODIs. India faces the hosts in a Boxing Day Test starting on December 26, concluding the tour with the second and final Test, beginning on January 3.

After have opting for a break from the white-ball leg of the tour, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli return for the test series.

The premier pacers are part of the Test squad, where Rahul and KS Bharat will take up wicketkeeping duties. KS Bharat also captained the India A squads during the South Africa tour recently. Notably, Shreyas Iyer’s return to full fitness and Ruturaj Gaikwad’s consistent performances have led to the exclusion of Ajinkya Rahane from the Test squad, while Cheteshwar Pujara wasn’t considered.

Ishan Kishan withdrew from the squad due to personal reasons while Mohammed Shami was unavailabile due to ongoing medical treatment.
