Happy with the Current Form: Agarwal
Mayank Agarwal has been stealing the limelight for some time now. From being the highest run scorer in the domestic season to slamming a double century against South Africa ‘A’ in the ongoing first unofficial Test in Bengaluru, the 27-year old batsman is seeming unstoppable.
Where the poor batting performance of the Indian batsmen in the first Test at Edgbaston have raised several questions on Indian batsmen, selectors might be tempted to look for some alternate options and based on the recent performances, Mayank Agarwal emerges as a suitable candidate.
However, even after being in such good form, Agarwal said that even though he is happy and delighted to start off a new season on a promising note, earning a national call-up is the last thing on his mind.
The Karnataka and India-A batsman simply wants to focus on his current form and keep scoring runs.
Focused on the Moment
“I am happy with the way this season has begun and the way I am batting. But you cannot start a new season thinking that you had scored 2000 runs in the last season,” he said.
“We play so many games, but it is very important to stay in the present. We are playing this and then we will be playing this then we will play the quadrangular. It is all about remaining focused on the present.”
Since June, Agarwal has amassed three list A centuries for India A and has played a pivotal role in the side’s success in England.
He continued his stellar form against South Africa-A with a double century on Sunday.
Mayank Agarwal’s 220 along with Prithvi Shaw’s 136 in the first innings laid the foundation of India’s first innings total of 584/8 declared.
South Africa got bowled out for 246 in the first innings and they continue to trail in the second innings.
