The big breaking news update coming in is that the Indian team have rested their premier fast bowler Mohammed Siraj for the forthcoming three-match ODI series in West Indies. India recently went on to defeat West Indies by 1-0 margin in the two-match Test series. Now, the hosts of the 2023 ODI World Cup have their eyes set on the mega event and will be focussing on deciding their best possible combination in order to win their first ICC Trophy since 2013.
IND vs WI: Why is Mohammed Siraj Not Playing West Indies vs India 1st ODI?
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have officially confirmed that speedster Mohammed Siraj will not be part of India playing 11 for the IND vs WI three-match ODI series starting on with the WI vs IND match on Thursday. The BCCI press release stated that the fast bowler has suffered a sore ankle and has been advised rest by the medical team. Siraj ended up picking a remarkable five-wicket haul during the recently concluded second and final Test match in West Indies on a pitch which had no help for the seamers. He was also adjudged the Man of the Match for his brilliant bowling performance. Incidentally, the 29-year-old pacer was not part of the India T20I squad as well and thus, he will now get some much-needed rest before getting ready for the Asia Cup 2023.
The BCCI have not named any replacement for Mohammed Siraj in the ODI squad. The likes of Shardul Thakur, Mukesh Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat and Umran Malik are the remaining four frontline pacers present in the India ODI squad for the India vs West Indies ODI games.
