Jason Holder IND vs WI: In a big news development, West Indies senior all-rounder Jason Holder is not playing the first ODI match against India at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad. Incidentally, he has ruled himself out for the entire three-match ODI series against the visiting Indian side. West Indies also ended up losing both of their last 2 ODI series at home against Bangladesh and Pakistan.
IND vs WI: Why is Jason Holder Not Playing Today?
After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran revealed that Jason Holder is not playing today after having tested positive for COVID-19. Holder returned to the West Indies white-ball squad after having missed the previous home series against Bangladesh. The premier all-rounder’s absence will be a huge blow for the hosts as his experience could have been vital and he had also done well against India in the limited-overs format of the game.
“We are gonna have a bowl first. There’s weather around and there will be help for the bowlers early on, hopefully we will make use of it. It’s a nice feeling, better feeling to win the toss, very happy to be here in front of my home ground. We spoke about it, batting in partnerships, gaining momentum, it’s been tough for us, but we are up for the challenge. Every game we will try to improve. Unfortunately Jason [Holder] has Covid so he misses out. It’s pretty much the same guys who played in the series against Bangladesh,” said West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran during the toss.
