IND vs WI: In a massive breaking news, India’s trio of Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer and Ruturaj Gaikwad have tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of the white-ball series against West Indies at home. The Men in Blue are scheduled to face West Indies in a three-match ODI series starting with the opening game on 6 February, 2022 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Post the ODI series, both these teams will also be locking horns in as many as 3 T20I matches as well.

Ahead of the three ODI matches against West Indies at home, a report by Sportstar has stated that three Indian players namely Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer and Ruturaj Gaikwad have contracted Covid upon their arrival in Ahmedabad. This development is a massive blow to the IND vs WI series as all the members of the Indian squad were part of the same bio-bubble and now the close contacts of the infected trio might also undergo isolation. It is also understood that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical team is monitoring the whole situation and the board is very much likely to announce the replacements very shortly. The report further adds that atleast 8 players and three support staff members of the Indian contingent have tested positive for COVID-19.

India vs West Indies

The absence of Dhawan and Ruturaj has already increased the troubles for hosts India with regards to who will open the batting with skipper Rohit Sharma. Also, BCCI had earlier stated that KL Rahul will only be available from India vs West Indies second ODI onwards. In a noticeable mention, the replacement players will have to undergo a mandatory 3-day quarantine in Ahmedabad before joining the rest of the India squad.
