IND vs WI Schedule: First ODI to be POSTPONED? Here’s the update

IND vs WI Schedule: In a massive news development, the upcoming India vs West Indies first ODI match is very much doubtful to be played as per the original schedule in the wake of multiple Covid-19 cases reported in the Indian camp. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) informed that as many as 7 members of the Indian contingent including 4 players namely Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Navdeep Saini have tested positive for Covid. The first ODI match between India and West Indies will be played on 6 February at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad as per the original schedule.

In the wake of more than one Covid-19 positive cases reported in the India squad, the first ODI against West Indies might be pushed further by a day or two. However, the BCCI is likely to take a final call on the India vs West Indies schedule if there is any increase in the Covid cases in the coming days. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has already added Mayank Agarwal to the India ODI squad, however, the Karnataka batsman will have to undergo a mandatory 3-day quarantine upon his arrival in Ahmedabad.
“For now the series will be played as per schedule. But if more positive cases come out today or tomorrow, we can push the start by a day or two. We will be flexible about that”, informed the BCCI official to InsideSport.

India vs West Indies Start Date
As per the original schedule, the India vs West Indies series will kickstart with the 1st ODI scheduled to begin on 6 February in Ahmedabad while the final two ODI matches will take place on 9 and 11 February respectively. On the other hand, the three-match T20I series will start on 16 February in Kolkata while the final T20I match of the home series will be held on 20 February. All the three ODI matches will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad while the three-match T20I series will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Apart from Dhawan, Shreyas, Ruturaj and Saini, Axar Patel has reportedly also tested positive for COVID-19 but he is yet to join the Indian team in Ahmedabad. It is being learnt that Yuzvendra Chahal is under isolation after being identified as close contact to one of the positive cases.
