Rahul Tripathi IND vs SL: In a surprising news development, right-handed batsman Rahul Tripathi has once again missed out on being part of the India playing XI for the first of the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka scheduled to be contested at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Indian team have managed to win just two out of their last 5 T20I matches in the recent while that includes a brilliant series victory in New Zealand.
IND vs SL: Why is Rahul Tripathi Not Playing Today’s India vs Sri Lanka 1st T20I Match?
It is quite unfortunate that Rahul Tripathi has once again missed out on making his India debut as he is not part of the national side in the first T20I against Sri Lanka on Tuesday. The right-handed batsman has performed really well for Maharashtra in the domestic circuit and also delivered some match-winning performances in the last few editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Incidentally, Tripathi was part of the India T20I squad during the last series in Ireland and recently also travelled with the ODI squad to Bangladesh, but couldn’t get to play a single game. India have awarded debut cap to Shubman Gill ahead of Tripathi who was there in the national set up before the Test opener.
“Excited. Always been excited to play for the country, but obviously leading now makes it more special. Excited to see how this new bunch of guys express themselves. We were going to bat first. Yes this is a chasing ground but we want to put ourselves in more difficult situations generally in bilaterals. Anyone who comes here we will make sure we’ll give them the confidence. Two debutants today – Gill and Mavi. Arshdeep was not available,” said India captain Hardik Pandya during the toss.
