Ishan Kishan IND vs SL: Even after scoring a massive double hundred during the last ODI outing, Ishan Kishan has failed to book a spot in the India playing XI for the first of the IND vs SL 2023 three-match ODI series scheduled to be hosted at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. India have not performed very well in the 50-overs format of the game during the recent while as they ended up losing both of their last two assignments at the hands of Bangladesh and New Zealand. The Men in Blue will be eyeing to select the best possible playing combination for the all-important ODI World Cup scheduled to be played at home later this year.
IND vs SL: Why is Ishan Kishan Not Playing Today’s India vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI Match?
During India’s most recent ODI game in Bangladesh, Ishan Kishan got an important opportunity to open the batting in the absence of Rohit Sharma and the talented batsman notched up a stunning innings of 210 runs off just 131 balls that included as many as 24 fours and 10 sixes. This was the maiden double hundred in ODI cricket for the southpaw and also the fastest in the history of the game. However, ahead of the first ODI game against Sri Lanka, Indian captain Rohit Sharma clearly mentioned that Shubman Gill will open the batting ahead of Ishan on Tuesday.
“I am not going to take anything from Ishan. He has been wonderful for us. He got a double hundred and I know what it takes to get a double hundred, it is a great achievement. But just to be honest and be fair to the guys who have done really well before that we need to give those guys enough chances as well,” India captain Rohit Sharma said during the pre-match press conference.
“It is unfortunate that we won’t be able to play Ishan but looking at how things have panned out for us in the last 8-9 months, looking at how the ODIs have gone through for us, it is fair to give Gill that run and he has done extremely well in that position. We will definitely try out and keep Ishan in the mix and see how things pan out for us as we play lot of games ahead,” he added.

Are Surya Yadav and Ishan Kishan victims of ' Workload Management ' ? No think tank would ever drop a player who is enjoying his rhythm.

Ishan kishan and Sky are not playing, and K L Rahul is playing ? We can't win World Cup with this approach and mentality. What has K L Rahul done, and Ishan and Sky have not done to play in the team. #bcci #cricket #jayshah #cricketfan
