India squad for IND vs SL ODI series: In a crucial news update, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have unveiled the final India ODI squad for the upcoming India vs Sri Lanka 2023 three-match home ODI series scheduled to begin in January 2023. This will be the first ODI series for the Indian team after having suffered a poor 1-2 series defeat at the hands of Bangladesh earlier this month. The India vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI encounter is scheduled to take place at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on 10 January, 2023.

Team India have named a 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match home series against Sri Lanka and the biggest update is that Shikhar Dhawan has been dropped from the ODI squad. Incidentally, Shikhar had captained the India ODI team during the previous few series against New Zealand, South Africa and West Indies in the absence of Rohit Sharma. However, after missing the Test series in Bangladesh, Rohit has recovered from his thumb injury and will lead the national team in the Lanka series. Also, premier wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been dropped from both the ODI as well as T20I squads for the Sri Lanka home series. India’s T20I captain Hardik Pandya has also been announced as Rohit’s deputy in the ODI team while Shardul Thakur has not been named in the 50-overs side.

Both Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah are yet to attain complete fitness and they are likely to return for the series against New Zealand at home. The likes of Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar and Axar Patel are the four spinners part of the ODI team while Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh are the frontline pace bowlers.
