Tim Southee IND vs NZ: The visiting New Zealand team will miss the services of their senior new ball pace bowler Tim Southee in the entire three-match ODI series in India. The Kiwis are currently crossing the swords against the Men in Blue in the first ODI encounter at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. New Zealand recently defeated Pakistan on their home soil in back-to-back ODI matches to seal the three-match ODI series in their favour by a 2-1 margin.
IND vs NZ: Why is Tim Southee Not Playing Today’s India vs New Zealand 1st ODI?
The New Zealand team management took a big decision to rest their senior pacer Tim Southee for the India tour in order to manage his workload especially this being the 50-overs World Cup year. Incidentally, Southee played both the Test matches and all the three ODI matches in Pakistan recently, thus, he asked to be rested for the India series. This also means that New Zealand are without three of their senior players, Kane Williamson, Trent Boult and Southee in this India tour, however, it will be a great opportunity for the youngsters and other players to step up.
“They (Boult, Southee, Williamson) are not in the side and that leaves a massive hole for us. On the other hand, it presents an opportunity for other guys who have been around the squad. Everyone has played international cricket in the squad which is a bonus,” Tom Latham said during the pre-match press conference.
“It is their turn to step up. Lucky we have Lockie Ferguson who has played a lot of cricket in India,” he added.
