The visiting New Zealand team did not got off to the best of starts in this India tour as they suffered a poor 0-3 ODI series whitewash as their top-order batters failed to contribute much with the bat.

During the second T20I match against India last year in November, New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson scored an impressive half-century but failed to take his team over the line. In his T20I career, Kane has scored more than 2400 runs from 87 games at a strike-rate of close to 125 that includes as many as 17 half-centuries. However, the senior right-handed batsman brings a lot more stability in the New Zealand team across formats. In his absence, left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner will captain the New Zealand T20I side in this three-match T20I series with the opening encounter scheduled to be played at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on 27 January, 2023 (Friday).
