Indian pacer Mukesh Kumar has returned to play in the Ranji Trophy quarterfinals, leaving the T20 squad ahead of the decisive 3rd match against New Zealand in Ahmedabad. Despite being part of the T20 squad for the New Zealand series, the team management decided to release him ahead of the 3rd T20. The decision was made as the pitch in Ahmedabad is expected to favor spin and with Hardik Pandya leading the side, there won’t be a need for an additional pacer.

In his return to the Ranji Trophy, Mukesh picked up two wickets against Jharkhand, demonstrating his potential and skill. The fight for pacers in the T20 squad will now be between Umran Malik, Shivam Mavi, and Arshdeep Singh.

Mukesh was with the India squad until the 2nd T20 in Lucknow, but on Sunday night, he traveled to Kolkata to join the Bengal Ranji team. The series-deciding 3rd T20 between India and New Zealand will take place on Wednesday at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
