IND vs ENG Stats : England defeated India by 227 runs in the first Test match in Chennai and took a lead of 1-0 in the four match series. On the 5th day India resumed their batting on 39/1. Cheteshwar Pujara got out cheaply off Leach bowling. Shubman Gill brought up his fifty but James Anderson dismissed him and Ajinkya Rahane in the same over and broke India’s backbone. Captain Virat Kohli fought from one end but eventually he too got out for 72 runs and in the end whole team bowled out for 192 runs and lost the Test by 227 runs.

1 – For the first time India lost a home Test in which R Ashwin took a five wicket haul. In his 22 home five wicket hauls India won 20 Tests, drew and lost 1 Test each.
2 – This is India’s only 2nd Test loss in 35 Tests at home since January 2013. The other loss came against Australia in Pune in 2017.
4 – India have lost each of the last four Tests under the leadership of Virat Kohli.
