IND vs ENG Day 5 of 1st Test: It will be very much right to say that after a fabulous Test series in Australia, the Indian team has surely not looked the same so far in all three departments in the ongoing first India vs England Test match in Chennai. After losing a crucial toss, India conceded a mammoth first innings score of 578 runs with the England captain Joe Root composing a sensational double hundred. In the first innings with the bat, except Cheteshwar Pujara, the Indian top-order struggled both against the England pacers and spinners as they were bowled out for 337 runs.
Eventually, England set a massive 420 runs target for India to chase down in the fourth innings on Day 4 of the Test match and once again Indian opener Rohit Sharma got out cheaply. England left-arm spinner Jack Leach claimed the prized scalp of Pujara early on Day 5 and then, it was a legendary spell from James Anderson who put on a masterclass of reverse swing bowling to shatter the stumps of both Shubman Gill and Ajinkya Rahane. Anderson quickly dismissed Rishabh Pant as well to put the Indian team completely on the backfoot early on Day 5.

Sanjay Manjrekar, fans blast Ajinkya Rahane
India’s current vice-captain and the then stand-in captain, Ajinkya Rahane produced a masterclass century knock in some tough conditions to help his team win a sensational game in Melbourne against Australia and India also went on to register a memorable series win Down Under in his captaincy. However, since that Test match, Rahane has failed to score significant amount of runs with the bat. Former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar has stated that Rahane has failed to contribute with consistent knocks after that fabulous century at the MCG. In the ongoing Test, the right-hander scored just 1 run in the first innings, while in the second innings, he got a 3-ball duck.
My issue with Rahane the captain is Rahane the batsman.
After that 100 in Melbourne his scores are – 27*, 22, 4, 37, 24, 1 & 0. After a 100, class players carry their form & carry the burden of players out of form. #INDvENG— Sanjay Manjrekar (@sanjaymanjrekar) February 9, 2021
