A lot of talks were going around the wicket-keeper spot and even after the heroics of Rishabh Pant in Australia, his spot was put under the scanner by his critics citing his wicket-keeping skills and the Indian captain Virat Kohli has made it clear on who is going to start in the playing 11.
IPL 2021 likely to start from 11 April, Final on 6 June: Reports
IND vs ENG: Rishabh Pant to be the first choice wicket-keeper
A wicket-keeper’s skills will be put into test on wickets that are low and slow. In India, one can expect such tracks but at the same time it would be foolish to play a wicket-wicket-keeper who cannot contribute with the bat and that is where Wriddhiman Saha comes into picture who is a superior keeper than Rishabh Pant but nowhere near Rishabh Pant’s batting ability. On the eve of the India vs England game, Virat Kohli made it clear that the southpaw will start.
Rishabh will start. Rishabh will take the gloves tomorrow. He’s had impactful performances in Australia and he’s in a good space – we want him to build on this. Along with him improving all aspects of the game, which will happen with more game time and the more confidence he gains playing those games
Virat Kohli is impressed with Rishabh Pant’s work ethics.
Rishabh Pant endured an ordinary IPL in 2020 which saw him out of the Indian limited overs squad for the Australian series but he proved himself in the toughest format of the game in tests.
“That’s how we look at Rishabh. He’s come along very nicely after he came to Australia. He wasn’t a part of the white-ball squads but he kept working hard on his fitness and his game and realized the importance of putting in that work. He got his results eventually.” Virat Kohli further added.
