England goes 1-0 up after 227-run win in the first Test

Chasing 420 runs target, the hosts were bowled out for just 192 on the final day of the first Test at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. India started well on Day 5 with Cheteshwar Pujara and Shubhman Gill. The pair seemed well in control before Leach removed India’s mainstay – Pujara off a delivery that just bounced much than expected. Soon, James Anderson broke the backbone of the Indian batting line-up in just four deliveries, cleaning up a well-set Shubhman Gill and a struggling Ajinkya Rahane. The veteran picked up his third by deceiving Pant with a slower ball and soon it was all over for the hosts. Skipper Virat Kohli battled on at one end as a glean ray of hope for India but Stokes castled him for 72 putting the final nail in the coffin after lunch.
