Team India suffered a huge blow when their premier batsman KL Rahul got ruled out of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final 2023 against Australia scheduled to begin from 7 June, 2023 at the Kennington Oval in London. For the second time in two WTC cycles, India have managed to qualify for the World Test Championship final, but they will definitely be eyeing to come up with an improved performance both with the bat and ball after having lost the WTC 2021 final against New Zealand.
IND vs AUS WTC Final: Why is KL Rahul Not Playing Today’s India vs Australia Test match?
Unfortunately, India will miss the services of KL Rahul in the IND vs AUS WTC Final 2023 starting from Wednesday due to a hip injury. The right-handed batsman sustained the injury while fielding during a IPL 2023 match for the Lucknow Super Giants against Royal Challengers Bangalore after which he also underwent a successful thigh surgery in London. On the other hand, Rahul had not been in the best of forms in recent times especially in Test cricket as he was also dropped from the Indian side during the last two Test matches at home against Australia. In his previous 10 innings in the longer format of the game, the right-handed opening batsman could only accumulate a total of 126 runs.
Interestingly, Rahul is the leading run-getter for India at The Oval in Test cricket as he has scored a total of 249 runs from 4 innings that includes a fabulous hundred as well. He scored a brilliant hundred at the Lord’s during the 2021 Test series against England. It still remains a big question, if fit, whether the 33-year-old cricketer would have made the cut in the India Playing XI or not. However, he is currently on the recovery process and it will be interesting to see when he makes a comeback to competitive cricket.
