Interestingly, India are not playing left-arm spin bowling all-rounder Axar Patel in the penultimate ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final 2023 encounter against Australia scheduled to be played from 7 June, 2023 at the Kennington Oval in London. After having won the ICC Champions Trophy 2013, the Indian team has taken part in as many as 8 ICC events out of which thrice they have played the finals, but the wait for the prestigious silverware is still haunting the millions of Indian fans across the globe. The ICC WTC Final 2023 is a wonderful opportunity for the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team to end that 10-year long wait and finally win another ICC trophy.
IND vs AUS WTC Final 2023: Why is Axar Patel Not Playing Today’s India vs Australia match?
It was quite obvious that left-arm spinner Axar Patel will miss out from the IND playing XI for the IND vs AUS WTC Final 2023 starting from Wednesday as Ravindra Jadeja is absolutely fit and he brings a lot of experience in the side both with the bat and ball. Jadeja smashed a brilliant hundred during India’s last Test outing in England and his recent form is the major reason that the team cannot play two like-to-like spinners in the playing XI. However, Axar performed extremely well especially with the bat during the recent home Test series against Australia where he scored 264 runs from 4 matches at an amazing average of 88 that includes as many as three half-centuries in some challenging conditions.
But it is quite unfortunate that Axar Patel will have to warm the bench in this summit clash against Australia. It will also be interesting to see whether India plays both Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin in the team or not.
