IND vs AUS: Why is Umran Malik Not Playing Today’s India vs Australia 1st ODI?
India’s fastest bowler Umran Malik isn’t playing the first IND vs AUS ODI match. He has been left out as the team management has opted for Mohammad Siraj, Mohammed Shami, and Shardul Thakur as the pace-trio along with skipper Hardik Pandya who will be bowling his medium pacers. The Indian skipper after winning the toss opted to field and spoke about the team combination. He said,
“We’ll bowl first. It is a good track and dew factor will be there. We feel we will do well in the second innings. I got some time off, breaks are like gold dust for me so it gave me a chance to rest and improve. Playing for India every game and every format is important. With this being a WC year, the ODI format is important. We’ve gone with four quicks – Shardul, Shami, myself and Siraj. Two spinners in Jadeja and Kuldeep.”
Talking about Umran Malik’s ODI numbers, the Jammu speedster has played 8 ODIs so far and scalped 13 wickets at an average of 27.30. His economy has been a bit on the higher side, i.e., 6.45 and his best figures of 3/57 came earlier this year against Sri Lanka in Guwahati.
