Shubman Gill IND vs AUS: In a massive breaking news development, India are not playing their in-form batsman Shubman Gill in the first Test match against Australia scheduled to be played at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. The Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 comprising of as many as four Test matches will be really crucial for the Indian team as they desperately need to win this series to book a place in this year’s ICC World Test Championship final.
IND vs AUS: Why is Shubman Gill is Not Playing Today’s India vs Australia 1st Test?
After losing a crucial toss and being asked to bowl first, India captain Rohit Sharma revealed that Shubman Gill is not part of the playing 11 in this opening Test match against Australia. Rohit and KL Rahul will be opening the batting despite Shubman having scored a brilliant maiden century in the last Test match that India played in Bangladesh. Team India’s stand-in captain KL Rahul had a horrible series with the bat in Test matches against Bangladesh recently but the team management has decided to back their vice-captain in this first Test and the right-handed opener had an amazing home Test series against Australia in 2017. However, Gill has been in a spectacular form during the recent while as he has scored as many as five centuries across the three formats of the game in the recent few months. The hosts are playing two debutants in Suryakumar Yadav and KS Bharat in the side.
“We would have batted too. Looks pretty dry. There will be help for spinners. We got to wait and see how much it does. Yesterday when we started training we did see some seam movement for the pacers up front. We have had a good prep for the last 5-6 days. We trained on the aspects in store. This is a big one. We know the importance of the series but we also understand it’s about winning one session at a time. It’s a long series. Three spinners, two seamers, Bharat and Suryakumar Yadav are debuting,” said India captain Rohit Sharma during the toss.

Can't understand why indian team management prefer #KLRahul
Over #ShubmanGill ? Totally ridiculous !! #BorderGavaskarTrophy#INDvsAUS— Debojit Nath (@nathdebojit24) February 9, 2023
@klrahul at most has got two tests to recement his place in the eleven. He fails to perform in these, consider him done from the red ball. He's been given a fair run and this #BGT2023 is just the extension of that. Can't keep @ShubmanGill out for long. #INDvsAUS

When you are in such red hot form, leaving you out in such a massive test match is a blunder. Being Shubman Gill is not easy! #INDvsAUS #BGT2023
