Matt Renshaw IND vs AUS: In an important news development, Australia are not playing left-handed batsman Matt Renshaw in the second Test match against India at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Australian team will definitely be feeling very much low on confidence after they lost the first Test match at the hands of India by an innings and 132 runs in Nagpur. In this Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 four-match Test series, Australia are already behind by 0-1 margin.
IND vs AUS: Why is Matt Renshaw Not Playing Today’s India vs Australia 2nd Test?
During the first Test match against India, Aussie team management took a really surprising decision by not playing their premier and in-form batsman Travis Head instead giving an opportunity to Matt Renshaw who batted really well as an opener during the India Test tour in 2017. However, Renshaw failed miserably in the opening Test match having scored a golden duck in the first innings and got dismissed for 2 runs in the second innings. His poor performance has forced Australia to straightaway bring back Head who has been a consistent performer in the longer format of the game especially in the last couple of years. On the other hand, Travis Head can also provide some crucial overs of off-spin bowling that can come useful on the Delhi pitch.
“We’ll bat first. The middle looks like there’s grass but bare at both ends. Plenty of turn there, will be a good Test. Cam Green and Mitch Starc aren’t playing, but we’ve got Travis Head coming in for Renshaw, and Matthew Kuhnemann makes his debut,” said Australia captain Pat Cummins during the toss.
