The big news coming from the Australian team is that their premier all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is not playing the 2nd ODI game against India being hosted at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. In a crucial World Cup year, Australia suffered a poor 5-wicket loss at the hands of India during the opening ODI match on Friday. The visitors now find themselves trailing 0-1 in this three-match ODI series.
IND vs AUS: Why is Glenn Maxwell Not Playing Today’s India vs Australia 2nd ODI?
In the toss, Australia captain Steve Smith stated that Glenn Maxwell was not available for selection in this second ODI game against India. Smith revealed that the right-hander pulled up a sore knee injury and thus, he will miss this encounter. During the first ODI match against India, Maxwell was dismissed by left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja for just 8 runs off 10 balls. The off-spinner bowled just a couple of overs with the ball during the second innings having conceded 7 runs. On the other hand, Australia have surprisingly brought in an extra seam bowling option in Nathan Ellis who bowls right-arm pace. While having played in as many as 4 ODIs so far, Ellis has taken three wickets at an average of 46.67.
“We will have a bowl. Different surface, been under covers for a while, might do something. Just a partnership through the middle would have helped us. It’s a good learning for us playing on these surfaces. Ellis comes in for Maxwell who has pulled up a bit sore and Carey is back for Inglis,” said Australia captain Steve Smith during the toss.
