Sanjay Manjrekar, Murali Vijay controversy: During the ongoing intriguing Test match between hosts India and Australia being played at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur, a big controversy has heated up cricket fans on Twitter involving popular commentator Sanjay Manjrekar and former Indian opener Murali Vijay. India is currently hosting Australia for the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 consisting of four Test matches.

During Day 2 of the India vs Australia 1st Test match, Sanjay Manjrekar was on the commentary panel in the first session and suddenly the official broadcasters brought up a list of Indian batsmen with the best conversion rates in Test cricket so far. Former India cricketer Murali Vijay was placed at the top of the list with the best conversion rate, however, Manjrekar mentioned on air that he is very much surprised to see the former on the top position. On the other hand, Sanjay went on to praise current Indian Test captain Rohit Sharma for his conversion stats over the years.

The fans on Twitter have taken the internet by fire and have seriously attacked Sanjay Manjrekar for his controversial comments involving Murali Vijay during the commentary stint. Vijay also posted on Twitter that the former Indian cricketers hailing from Mumbai never appreciate the players coming from south part of India.

“Some Mumbai ex players can never be appreciative of the south !” wrote Murali Vijay on Twitter.

 

Murali Vijay recently announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket. Vijay has played as many as 61 Test matches where he has scored close to 4000 runs at an average of 38.29 that includes a total of 15 half-centuries and 12 hundreds. The right-hander has also represented India in 17 ODIs and 9 T20I games scoring 339 and 169 runs respectively.

“Today, with immense gratitude & humility, I announce my retirement from all forms of International cricket. My journey from 2002-2018 has been the most wonderful years of my life for it was was an honour representing India at the highest level of sport. I am grateful for the opportunities given to me by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), Chennai Super Kings and Chemplast Sanmar,” wrote Murali Vijay on Twitter.
