Australia didn’t have as much as 3 first choice players for the first test in Nagpur that ended inside 3 days. They would be extremely disappointed with the batting performance and their fast bowlers couldn’t create enough chances while India were batting. They have included this left arm spinner in the squad for the 2nd test
IND vs AUS: Matthew Kuhnemann to replace Mitchell Swepson
Mitchell Swepson who was originally in the squad is set to leave to Australia following the birth of his child which was already a pre planned one. Australia have called Matthew Kuhnemann as a replacement for Mitchell Swepson. They already have Ashton Agar in the side who is also a left arm orthodox similar to Matthew Kuhnemann.
Australia dearly missed a left arm orthodox bowler in their side in the first test. They played 2 off spinners, although they both bowled quite differently, Indian batsmen have a history of struggling against left arm orthodox spinners. Australia missed the trick by not playing Ashton Agar in the first game. There are high chances of Australia playing either of the left arm orthodox spinners in their squad for the 2nd test in Delhi.
The one problem they would need to sort out while playing a left arm orthodox is whether to leave Nathan Lyon out of the playing 11 as they surely cannot look to replace Todd Murphy who was excellent in the first game.
Will Travis Head return for the 2nd test?
Australia made a tactical drop in the first game when they preferred Peter Handscomb ahead of Travis Head in the first match. Travis Head was in excellent form throughout the Australian summer and it came as a surprise to one and all to see the Australian 11 after the toss of the first match.
With Matthew Renshaw struggling with his knee, Australia could look to bring in Travis Head whose counter attacking ability could make a difference in the game.
