Rohit Sharma IND vs AFG: In a massive breaking news development, India captain Rohit Sharma is not playing the last match of Asia Cup 2022 against Afghanistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. The Men in Blue have already been knocked out of the T20 tournament after having conceded two poor back-to-back losses at the hands of Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
IND vs AFG: Why is Rohit Sharma Not Playing Today’s India vs Afghanistan Match? Who is India Captain?
After losing the toss and being put in to bat first, India’s stand-in skipper KL Rahul revealed the big news that regular captain Rohit Sharma is not playing today against Afghanistan. Rahul noted that Rohit needed some rest as the conditions are very much hot in the UAE and the team has been playing back-to-back games in the ongoing edition of Asia Cup. Incidentally, Rohit Sharma smashed an amazing innings of 72 runs off 41 deliveries that included 5 fours and 4 sixes during the last match against Sri Lanka. India have made as many as three changes to their playing 11 from the last match as the trio of Deepak Chahar, Axar Patel and Dinesh Karthik have been included in the side.
“We wanted to bat first. We want to challenge ourselves as a batting unit. Rohit wants to take a break, playing back-to-back is not easy in these conditions. Yuzi (Chahal), Rohit and Hardik miss out. Chahar, Karthik and Axar come in. Even coming into this tournament, we had the T20 World Cup in mind. It’s a good learning for us to play such a tournament before the World Cup. We have learnt a few things from the losses. Trying to finalise the roles that each individual will play in the World Cup,” said Indian skipper KL Rahul at the toss.
