IND vs AFG Asia Cup 2022

It’s Virat Kohli’s night in Dubai as the former Indian skipper has hit the 71st century of his cricketing career against Afghanistan in the ongoing T20 Asia Cup 2022 (September 8). The 33-year-old took 53 deliveries to get off the mark and smashed a classy six to reach his very very special hundred and halted the century drought of 1020 days.

Kohli opened the Indian innings in absence of Rohit Sharma and remained not out until the end of India’s innings and scored 122 runs off 61 deliveries with 12 fours and six sixes at a strike rate of 200. Aided by the historic knock of Kohli, India posted a huge total of 212 for the loss of two wickets.

Besides, this is the third best individual performance of Kohli in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 as he has already hit two back-to-back fifties versus Pakistan and Hong Kong earlier. He is now the highest run-getter of the tournament with 276 runs in his account, with an average of 92 and a strike rate of 147.59. He has hit 11 sixes in the tournament so far being the second-highest in the chart of the most sixes for that matter.

Kohli had to endure a ton of criticism for his form with the bat as the right-hand batter was going through one of the roughest phases of his career. He had recently opened up about his mental health, cricket, and how a good break has done well for him overall. The hundred has come after more than two and half years and has come in the shortest format of the sport, which, is a significant act deeming the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia.

Besides, given this huge target, India will look out to wrap their Asian campaign on a high with a victory against Afghani men, after their alarming exclusion from the race to the title. The team digested two successive defeats in the Super 4 stage, against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, which pulled the curtains on their challenge in the tournament. Sharma and co. will now play Australia at home in a three-match T20I series, starting from September 20 in Mohali.
