India have faced their second group stage exit within one year now in multinational tournaments. They didn’t make the knockout stages in the previous edition of T20 world cup in UAE, and they won’t be playing the final of the Asia Cup 2022 in UAE. Although toss plays a crucial role in deciding the winner of the game, India had the resources to take the toss out of equation but due to poor execution from their lead pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar and some awful team selection by Rohit Sharma, India are in this situation.
IND vs AFG: Will India finally play Dinesh Karthik?
Dinesh Karthik is the best pacer hitter available in India at the moment. There is no denying the fact that he is among the best in the world at death overs. India gave Dinesh Karthik a very long rope previous to the Asia Cup, although playing Dinesh Karthik in a full stretch side is not a feasible option as it messes up with the balance of the team, India could have played the experienced campaigner after Ravindra Jadeja’s exit.
Instead, India decided to play Deepak Hooda at #7 who is finding it too much to handle at that position. India need to drop Deepak Hooda and play Dinesh Karthik against Afghanistan.
India vs Afghanistan: Deepak Chahar ahead of Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has disappointed everyone with some awful bowling at the death overs in the last 2 games. He hasn’t been effective with the new ball either since the first game against Pakistan. Deepak Chahar is a bad bowler at death overs compared to Bhuvneshwar Kumar but India will feel that, they have nothing to lose in replacing Bhuvneshwar Kumar with Deepak Chahar as Bhuvneshwar Kumar hasn’t stood up at death overs with the ball either.

Asia Cup 2022: Axar Patel to replace Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant has been given a very long rope and he hasn’t grabbed them to this point in time. Though, the shrewd tactician, as hailed by many in media, Rahul Dravid, made a blunder in not sending Rishabh Pant ahead of Hardik Pandya against Sri Lanka, the southpaw wicket keeper batsman hasn’t made a case for himself in the middle order yet. India would benefit in playing Axar Patel who can give top quality overs with the ball as well.
