The cricket Australia’s new CEO in Earl Eddings revealed that the possibilities of conducting the WT20 in October this year in Australia looks bleak as the high profile tournament involves a lot of things to be considered in the current world which is occupied by covid-19.
The T20 world cup which was supposed to happen after 4 years in all possibility might get cancelled and the West Indies will be the defending champions for at least one more year. The WT20 last happened in 2016 where West Indies clinched the trophy from the jaws of defeat against the current ODI champions in England
It’s very very difficult!
Australian board sacked Kevin Roberts who was the CEO of the Australian board for quite sometime now. The former CEO failed to prove his majority which lead to his ouster. The new CEO in Earl Eddings took to media after his appointment and revealed the grief news that Australia is not in a situation to host WT20 this year.
Here’s what he said regarding the possibility of the happening of WT20,
While it hasn’t been formally called off this year, or postponed, trying to get 16 countries into Australia in the current world, where most countries are still going through COVID spiking, I think it’s unrealistic, or it’s going to be very, very difficult.
A relief for BCCI!
The BCCI who were eagerly waiting for the confirmation from Cricket Australia regarding the hosting of WT20 would be relieved big time although nothing have been finalized yet, the latest press release from cricket Australia’s CEO should seal the deal.
The BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and the chairman of the IPL governing council in Brijesh Patel earlier revealed that they were planning to conduct the IPL in the September-October window so that players from around the world can participate in the league which was originally planned for WT20.
