People love watching fours and sixes being hit on a regular basis in T20 cricket. The scores that were once difficult for teams to register even in the 50-over format are scores in less than half the time in T20s. In this article, we look at t20 highest score team
1. Afghanistan: 278/3 vs Ireland (Feb 2019)
Afghanistan holds the record for scoring the highest T20 score in the history of the format. The second T20 of the three-match series between Afghanistan and Ireland saw the former notching a mammoth total.
Riding on Hazratullah Zazai’s magical 162-run total, Afghanistan recorded the highest ever total of 278 for 3 in 20 overs. In reply, Ireland managed to score 194 runs in the second innings, thereby losing the game by 83 runs.
2. Czech Republic: 278 for 4 vs Turkey (August 2019)
Both Czech Republic and Turkey are not prominent teams in cricket. However, in a clash between the two on August 30, 2019, Czech Republic produced a carnage and recorded a mammoth 278-run total in 20 overs. Sudesh Wickramasekara notched a 36-ball 104, while Sumit Pokhriyal smashed 79 runs off 52 balls.
In reply, Turkey fell like a pack of cards as they got bundled out for just 21 runs. Czech Republic won the game by 257 runs, which is also the biggest winning margin in T20 cricket.
3. Australia: 263 for 2 vs Sri Lanka (September 2016)
Known for his destructive T20 batting exploits, Glenn Maxwell destroyed Sri Lankan bowling attack in Pallakele on September 6, 2016.
Maxwell opened the innings in that game and scored a blistering 145-run knock off 65 balls as Australia posted a gigantic 263-run total. Besides, there were also valuable contributions from David Warner, Usman Khawaja and Travis Head, scoring 28, 36 and 45 respectively.
Sri Lanka batted well in the second innings but ended up scoring 189 in the second innings, thereby losing the game by 85 runs.
4. Sri Lanka 260 for 6 vs Kenya (September 2007)
During the early days of T20 cricket, Sri Lanka took left everyone’s in awe after posting a gigantic total against Kenya. In the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007, Sri Lanka posted a mammoth 260-run total in the first innings, courtesy of sensational performances from S Jayasuriya, M Jayawardene and J Mubarak.
Kenya couldn’t produce any fight in the second innings as they got bundled out for a paltry 88. Sri Lanka won the game by 172 runs.
5. India 260 for 5 vs Sri Lanka (December 2017)
Indian openers in Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul produced a carnage against Sri Lanka in the second of the three-match T20 series. The duo put on an exhibition of fours and sixes, putting on a 165-run partnership for the opening wicket before Rohit departed for 118 off just 43 balls.
KL Rahul scored 89 off 49 balls as India notched a huge 260-run total in the first innings. Indian bowlers too did a decent job as they bundled out Sri Lanka for 172 in the second innings, thereby winning the game by 88 runs.
