क्या भारत को ऋषभ पंत के रूप में धोनी का उत्तराधिकारी मिल चुका है?

विकेट कीपिंग एक काफी मुश्किल काम है, और यदि विकेटकीपर कुशल न हो तो कई बार टीम मैच भी हार जाती है. लोग विकेटकीपर से काफी अच्छे प्रदर्शन की उम्मीद करते हैं, क्योकि उनके प्रदर्शन पर टीम का प्रदर्शन निर्भर करता है, पर अच्छा विकेटकीपर तलाश कर पाना लगभग हर टीम के लिए मुश्किल होता है. पूर्व कप्तान महेंद्र सिंह धोनी के बाद भारत ने टेस्ट में रिद्धिमान साहा को आजमाया और साहा ने काफी अच्छा प्रदर्शन किया पर वे कंधे की चोट के कारण इंग्लैंड दौरे से पहले टीम से बाहर हो गये.

साहा कि गैर मौजूदगी में भारत ने दिनेश कार्तिक पर दांव लगाया. निधास ट्रॉफी में उनके शानदार प्रदर्शन के बाद उन्हे ब्रिटिश परिस्थितियों के लिए चुना गया. पर उन्होने बल्ले और दस्तानों से वह प्रदर्शन नहीं किया जिसकी उनसे अपेक्षा लगाई गई थी.

विकेटकीपर बल्लेबाज के तौर पर लगातार खराब प्रदर्शन के बाद भारत ने ऋषभ पंत को खिलाने पर विचार किया. ऋषभ पंत को खिलाना भी एक दाँव ही था.

ऋषभ पंत, भविष्य के हीरो

भारत को पूर्व कप्तान महेंद्र सिंह धोनी की गैर मौजूदगी का उपाय ऋषभ पंत में नजर आ रहा है. ऋषभ ने अपनी पदार्पण वाली पारी में ही पांच कैच लेकर रिकॉर्ड बना दिया. वो ऐसा करने वाले चौथे भारतीय कीपर हैं. उन्होने अलस्टेयर कुक, किटोन जेंनिंग, ओल्ली पॉप, क्रिस वोक्स और आदिल राशिद का विकेट लिया.

ऋषभ से पहले नरेन तंहने (पाकिस्तान के खिलाफ 1955 में), किरण मोरे ( इंग्लैंड के खिलाफ 1986 में), और नमन ओझा ( श्रीलंका के खिलाफ 2015 में), ऐसा किया था. बीस वर्षीय कीपर बल्लेबाज विश्व क्रिकेट में तीसरे ऐसे खिलाफी है जिन्होने पदार्पण पर पांच कैच लिये हो. उनसे पहले ऑस्ट्रेलियन ब्रायन टेबर और ऑस्ट्रेलिया के ही जॉन मैकलेन ने किया था.

Wicketkeeping is a thankless job yet having not so experienced wicket-keeper will be responsible for the team’s loss. People expect excellent performance from a wicketkeeper as doing it well is their job, but it took years to find such a gem that is specialised in creating magic every other day. After MS Dhoni, India have tried Wridhman Saha in Test, and he has been a great talent to sustain over Mahi’s absence, but Saha has been struggling with a shoulder injury and was in the Rehab, so he has to quit from India’s tour to England.

Now the bet was on Dinesh Kartik, after seeing his heroics at Nidahas Trophy, Indian selectors have once again tried him as our wicket-keeper in British conditions, but he didn’t impress much with the bat and gloves.

Having a devastating performance from the wicket-keeping end tends to think more about that part of the team and the Indian team management finally called the debutant Rishabh Pant. Well, it was once again a bluff, but Rishabh proved to be an ace of spade.

The young bloke of India has finally got a solution to MS Dhoni’s replacement in Red-ball cricket.

Rishabh created history on his debut match by taking five catches to become the fourth Indian wicket-keeper to do so. He caught Alastair Cook, Keaton Jennings, Ollie Pope, Chris Woakes and Adil Rashid behind the wicket. Rishabh has joined Naren Tamhane (against Pakistan in 1955), Kiran More (against England, 1986) and Naman Ojha (against Sri Lanka) in the list of Indian wicket-keepers who had taken five catches in their debut match. The 20-year-old talent has also become the third wicket-keeper in the world that took five catches in an innings after Australian Brian Taber and another Aussie John Maclean.
