India’s young gun Hardik Pandya has been a revelation ever since he burst on to the scenes way back in 2015. Over this short span of time, he has played under various captains in IPL and in international cricket. In one of his recent interviews, he named the captain who helped him to produce the best performance.
Hardik Pandya names his favourite captain
One of India’s most valuable players in limited-overs cricket, Hardik made his debut in the IPL under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. Later when he went onto play for the national team, he played under India’s world cup winning captain MS Dhoni and is currently playing under Virat Kohli in all three formats. But during his latest interview, when asked about the captain who helped him to produce his best performances, he named the Mumbai Indian’s skipper Rohit Sharma.
“I have always enjoyed playing with Rohit and he has been a great captain. We don’t have much conversations about the game but I have had my best years playing under him,” Pandya was quoted as saying by Mumbai Indians.
Hardik Pandya provides stability for Mumbai
Hardik Pandya has been a consistent performer for the Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indians over the years. From 61 matches he has scored 1068 runs at an average just below thirty and with a whopping strike rate of 154.8. His contribution of 42 wickets in these many matches makes him a perfect all-round option for Mumbai Indians and provide them the required stability to their squad.
The balance between injury and international season
If not for the coronavirus pandemic Hardik would’ve made his return to international cricket for the now-canceled series against South Africa. He lost most of the 2019 international season after struggling with an injury. He has so far represented India in 38 ODI’s and 25 T20I’s under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma combined and will be itching to get out to the field once the lockdown ends.
